Nina first joined the Nia team as a marketing intern during the summer of 2017. Nina returned as a summer intern in 2018 and since then, has joined our team part time while she continues working on her degree at UCLA. Nina assists with researching Nia portfolio company social and environmental practices, as well as their alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Nina also contributes to the social media team, monitoring activity and developing Nia hero content.
Prior to joining Nia, Nina served as a marketing intern for Pulp Pantry, a Los Angeles-based, women-owned green business that partners with local juiceries, up-cycling their waste pulp to make granola. She has also interned at Planting Justice, an Oakland-based nonprofit that aims to “empower people impacted by mass incarceration and other social inequalities with the skills and resources to cultivate food sovereignty, economic justice, and community healing.”
Nina is working toward a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science at UCLA with a minor in Food Studies. She is a fellow for the University of California’s Global Food Initiative for the 2018-2019 academic year. Outside of school and internships, Nina loves trying new restaurants and exploring the outdoors. After receiving her B.S. she hopes to bring awareness to the connection between humans and the natural world that many seem to have lost. Her hope is to create more sustainable and equitable systems, especially with food.
Nina is inspired to work at a company where there is no need to choose between doing business and working toward social justice. She is pleased to be able to incorporate her values in her work.
