Investment Approach

Our process is driven by our proprietary research and strong fundamentals.

Rather than begin with an index and pull out "negative companies," we begin our process by searching for products and services that address the needs of our planet and its people, across our six solutions themes.

Companies that may make our buy list meet the following investment criteria:

Strict Environmental, Social and Governance guidelines.

High-impact, solutions-focused social and environmental standards.

Strong business fundamentals and growth potential not fully appreciated by the markets.

Offer unique products or services with high potential for long-term growth.

Continuous commitment to people, the planet, and corporate social responsibility through their operations.

Women-led firm

With Nia, women lead.

All companies in our portfolios have women in executive leadership and/or on the Board of Directors. Our companies offer products and services that benefit women and girls and promote an inclusive work environment.

A gender lens is woven throughout everything we do. As a women-led firm, we are committed to advancing education, business opportunities, and quality of life for women and BIPOC communities globally.

The Nia Solutions Themes

Our investment decisions are guided by our six investing themes, which address global, systemic and climate change risks. We use a rigorous and fundamental bottom-up research process, we select leading companies within our focus areas. We believe the companies in our portfolios are well-positioned for growth and offer a primary product or service that broadly benefits people and the environment.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were created in 2015 by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Just like Nia’s six solutions themes, these 17 goals identify and aim to address the most pressing global challenges, including poverty, racial and gender inequality, lack of access to healthcare and education, climate change, and environmental degradation. While governments of both developed and developing countries are taking the lead in adopting the 2030 Agenda, public companies have a crucial role to play.

Nia’s six solutions themes were developed in 2012 as a guide for investors to address many of the same concerns for people and the planet that these UN SDGs seek to address. Nia portfolio companies are tackling many of these challenges through their products, services, and core business practices.
