Responsible Contractor Policy
At Nia Impact Capital, we believe in fostering a values based business ecosystem that contributes positively to society. Our Responsible Contractor Policy is designed to ensure that we partner with organizations that share our commitment to ethical practices, diversity, and social responsibility.
We prioritize working with women and people of color-led businesses, as well as local contractors, to support diverse leadership and community economies. We also have a preference for BCorp-certified businesses, recognizing their commitment to profiting from purpose. Supporting women and people of color-owned businesses aligns with our commitment to fostering economic equity and diversity. According to the Wells Fargo 2025 Impact of Women-Owned Businesses Report, women-owned businesses represent 39.2% of all U.S. businesses, employing 12.9 million workers and generating $3.3 trillion in revenue. By prioritizing these businesses, we contribute to a more inclusive economy and tap into a significant driver of economic growth.
Our policy emphasizes fair compensation and strong employee benefits, including living wages and health insurance. We expect our contractors to comply with all relevant laws and safety standards, provide adequate training for their employees, and participate in apprenticeship programs where applicable.
We value contractors with clean ethical records, particularly regarding wage and hourly wage laws. Professional qualifications, including proper licensure and bonding, are essential. We enjoy partnering with businesses and organizations that are proactive in valuing their employees. We place a strong emphasis on human capital management, expecting our contractors to respect freedom of association and maintain a zero-tolerance approach to human rights violations.
To ensure adherence to these principles, we've implemented this policy to monitor compliance with our responsible contractors policy:
We ask contracting companies with employees who will be working for Nia to either commit in writing that they are following these practices or, preferably, to provide their written policies for our review. Once these policies are reviewed we utilize our template both for our records and to communicate to the partner that their policies meet the threshold for compliance with our responsible contractor policy. We may conduct periodic internal reviews and require annual attestations to verify compliance with our policy. Additionally, we will monitor public sources for any controversial news reporting. This comprehensive approach reflects our dedication to ethical business practices and social responsibility. By working with contractors who share these values, we aim to create a positive ripple effect that extends beyond our immediate business operations and into the broader community.
